Blogs - The One Man Show
From VA-Wiki
We called this track Blogs, the one man show because we do not want to talk about blogs as part of campaigns – that´s what we do next week. We will talk about individual blogs. Blogs from people who want to share their view on the society.
Ariana Huffington (her blog Huffington Post had 600.000 comments last month) contributed her thoughts on what is so different about the blogging culture: "I’ve written about how traditional media sometimes suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder, you know they cover a story and then they abandon it. And the online media suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, we like to cover something and then cover it and cover it again, developing the story until something is done."
Rocky Bru is a prominent blogger in Malaysia who started blogging in 2006. Blogging is for him "like smoking, it´s a habbit, you do not one to get rid of it." From one blog entry per day he came to several postings each day. Coming from journalism for him ethical standards are very important in his daily work. But he does not want bloggers to be close to politicans, because they should not be friendly to them, they should attac.
From Markus Beckedahl, newthinking communications, we learned about Basic Patterns for successful blogs. They include:
- Be a authentic writer
- Involve your audience
- Concentrate on one topic
- Share your sources.
Forum discussion
Maybe we can extend this list. In the forum is extensive material about leagel and marketing aspects of blogging. A lot of the material was contributed from our expert Abraham Olandres.
In the forum several topics started from the inital question: What is blogging? Is it journalism? Is it propaganda? Is it just fun? Further interesting topics from the form discussion included:
- Bloggers and freedom of opinion & expression
- The blogging community - an alternative community?
